The United States has seized two oil tankers in the Atlantic Ocean. One of the two ships seized on Wednesday is Russian and the other is Venezuelan.
After a week-long chase, the US Coast Guard and a special team of US soldiers seized the oil tanker Marinera with a legal warrant. The US had been monitoring the ship for a long time.
The ship was flying the Russian flag at the time. There is a Russian submarine in the area. This incident is expected to further sour relations between the US and Russia. Russia has strongly criticized the US over the Venezuelan incident.
On the other hand, the US Coast Guard has seized another Venezuelan oil tanker named M Sofia.
After the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the Trump administration is keeping a close watch on oil trade in the region. The US is preventing ships that are under sanctions from supplying oil.
